本書原名Sun Yat-Sen and the Chinese Republic，由徐植仁精心選譯，最早於1926年由上海三民公司出版。該《傳記》引述了很多“中山先生口述的童年時代的故事和所經過的重大政治事件”，尤其對孫中山少年時代的生活和家庭情況敘述頗詳，富有時代氣息。

林百克（Paul Myron Linebarger，1871—1939），美國人。1889—1895年在法國巴黎、德國海德堡學習法律。1895年起先後在美國、菲律賓從事法律工作。1912年開始任孫中山的顧問。1928年任南京國民政府顧問，後執律師業。
