江西美以美會女傳教士石美玉（1873-1954）及胡遵理（Jennie V. Hughes, 1874-1951）創立上海「伯特利教會」，藉醫療、辦學、佈道而著稱，至1930年成立「伯特利環遊佈道團」，起用計志文（1901-1985）、宋尚節（1901-1944）等名佈道家，巡遊佈道，掀起宗教復興，名聞全國。該會由於抗戰及內戰（1937-1949）被迫南遷香港，由藍如溪（1905-2004）及胡美林（1908-2004）等續辦神學院、中小學以至創辦香港、台北、多倫多（Toronto）十所堂會，傳揚聖道而成為本港著稱之獨立教會。

本書縷述此一由中美女傳教士建立於滬、港雙城之華人獨立教會之百年史事，藉此為近代中國教會史提供一獨特的個案。
李金強，國立澳洲大學（Australian National University）哲學博士、香港浸會大學歷史系榮休教授及近代史研究中心榮譽顧問、新亞研究所儒學史研究中心主任。
黃彩蓮，香港浸會大學哲學博士，香港建道神學院神學碩士、道學碩士，香港理工大學電子工程學士。曾任基督教宣道會北角堂牧師。
