作者羅肇忠是電話收藏家，20餘年專注從各處收藏不同製造商、產地、型號的舊式有線撥輪和按掣電話，藏品涵蓋1900至1980年代曾於香港使用過的各款電話；加上他曾是香港電話公司的維修員，精通電話維修知識，對電話於香港的發展歷程和技術富有研究。《香港電話》聚焦於此，以精簡的文字和豐富的圖片，圖文並茂回顧香港電話歷史，講解背後的操作原理和知識，並以圖錄的方式重現昔日電話懷舊或鮮明的色彩，以及帶出電話與當時社會的種種，最後略談近代通訊發展技術。翻開本書，有如親臨電話博物館，讓我們藉作者的眼睛，「重新」認識香港電話，使它不致在歷史巨輪下靜靜地消失。
羅肇忠1969年加入香港電話公司從事維修工作，把25年中所見所聞，編寫成書，希望與大家分享有關香港電話的發展歷程。搜集資料工作至今仍在繼續，希望將這本書的內容變得更加充實。
