宣傳是什麼？歷史事實又是什麼？
在面臨外敵的當下，為了鼓舞民心士氣，宣傳是有必要的。但做為後世歷史研究者，則有必要對事實作釐清，留下真實的歷史，而不是在所謂「國家認同建構」的「民族記憶」大纛之下，誤謬流傳「歷史垃圾」。
本書是在發掘大量日軍原始檔案基礎上，對比國內戰史檔案，對1933年日軍熱河作戰（長城抗戰）進行的國際對比考證。曝露了第二十九軍喜峰口大刀隊殺敵紀錄的虛偽，釐正臺海兩岸戰史紀錄中的種種謬誤，並指出以政治宣傳取代歷史事實，將抗戰史作為民族精神教育手段的方法面弊病，是對今日已成為民族抵抗精神原點的長城抗戰史紀錄的顛覆性研究。
利用實證戰史研究，注重使用第一手原始資料，為了重新考證，澄清當今官方戰史紀錄中有重大爭議的歷史事實，可以做為利用戰史檔案進行國際比較研究的新方法。

姜克實
1953年生，1982年南開大學畢業，1983年復旦大學研究生在學中赴日，1991年早稻田大學文學研究科取得文學博士。歷任早稻田大學文學部助手，岡山大學文學部助教授、教授（日本近現代史），於2019年退休（岡山大學名譽教授）。著有《石橋湛山の思想史的研究》、《近代日本の社会事業思想》、《日軍檔案中出現的平型關大捷》、《台兒莊會戰日中檔案比較研究》等書。
