陳荊和教授是享譽國際的東南亞研究權威，於整理越南史料方面尤為人所稱道。他在香港中文大學新亞書院和中國文化研究所任教期間，出版了多種專著，探討十六世紀菲律賓華僑、明清之際越南華僑及近代中越關係，就經濟貿易、軍事外交、海上交通、人物往來等闡明東亞地區的歷史。本書全面介紹了陳教授的重要著作，讀者可藉此加深對明清海洋史的認識。
周佳榮教授，香港中文大學歷史系畢業，香港大學哲學博士，留學日本，先後在大阪外國語大學「現大阪大學」及廣島大學進修。與香港中文大學日文系，香港浸會大學歷史系擔任教職，講授「日本文化與社會」、「日本史」、「近代日本與西方」等科目。現為新亞研究所教務長及亞太研究中心主任，著有《一本讀懂明治日本》、《一本讀懂大正日本》、《一本讀懂昭和日本》、《一本讀懂平成日本》、《快讀古今日本一萬年》及《瀛洲華聲：日本中文報刊一百五十年史》等。
