陳君葆（一八九八至一九八二）是在香港為國家民族立過大功的知名學者，曾任香港大學馮平山圖書館館長兼文學院教授。供職期間，對促進港大的中文教育，推行新文字運動，以及在新界鄉村推廣平民教育等，均不遺餘力。

新中國成立初期，陳君葆不顧重重阻攔，多次帶領香港教師和學生到內地參觀訪問，並參與組織香港大學一批英籍教授訪問北京。上世紀五十年代初，為促進香港同胞的愛國團結，創辦了香港華人革新協會。

本書主要內容分三編，甲編選載了陳君葆教授在二次大戰及抗戰期間針砭時政的專文；乙編雜談顯露了他對教育、文化、藝術等方面充滿無限關愛的赤子之情；丙編一輯則抒發了作者對往事、故人、生活的緬懷與感觸。

綜觀陳君葆教授一生的言行身教，不啻可供今人對愛國愛港定義的尚佳詮釋。
