小學五年級的巧巧，她媽媽黃鑲是大溪協福木器行的木藝師。黃鑲想參加木藝比賽，希望複刻已故父親留下的紅檜梳妝檯，證明自己達到父親的標準，但一直無法破解阿公獨特的榫接工法。這座梳妝檯是阿公生前最後一件作品，因找不到買家而一直保存至今，鄰居東東的爸爸曾在梳妝檯的鏡子裡「看過鬼」，因此被稱為「來自地獄的訂單」，成為木器行的神秘傳說。
某天，一位神秘青年阿旺出現在木工廠，自稱十八歲，手藝精湛，被黃鑲收為學徒。阿旺不僅幫助黃鑲解決客戶訂單的設計難題，也逐漸成為巧巧的朋友。
