作者是得到了機緣，蒙青城山道長傳授「堪輿真機」，後又學三山九侯先生的「通靈法」，頓悟天文地理的至理，得神仙秘訣，因知人要改其運，一要天道，二要地道，三要人道，三道合一便曰：「自然」。天道是成仙修真之法，地道是富貴發跡之術，人道是做人處事之理也。 其實三道之理無他，三道合一，自是「仙佛」，三道分歧，皆有影響。作者特別對所有學生交代此言，勿執一而忽視其他二道。此書專論地道之學，原是收天禽，步地獸之法。 地道之學，原有玄機，慧眼看地，先看其勢，再看其形，三看明堂，四察龍虎，五對朝山。祇要「有應有驗」，不管用何法，皆曰「善」。 另外作者傳法，並非單指巒頭理氣，更有意神與山川融浹的破解之法，這是神仙心法，全屬天機之文。而撰寫此書，書名「地靈仙踪」真是仙踪處處有，有志學習地理讀者何必再他求。
