故副總統陳誠辭修先生，早歲獻身軍旅，先後於北伐、平亂、剿共、抗戰、戡亂諸役中，屢膺重寄，迭著豐功。民國38年，大陸變色，臨危受命，出任臺灣省政府主席，其後兩任行政院長、兩任副總統，十餘年間，殫精竭慮，建設臺灣，綢繆生聚，勳績尤著。
辭修先生非常重視個人資料的保留與整理，特設「石叟資料室」，保存其參與國政的重要史料。此次出版的《陳誠先生回憶錄》，係就《石叟叢書》八大門類中的傳記門、文電門中的上蔣中正先生函電以及附存門中的「總裁手翰影存」與「石叟手稿影存」，彙編而成。依時間先後，分別為北伐平亂1冊、抗日戰爭2冊、國共戰爭1冊 、 建設臺灣2冊，共200萬字，約占《 石叟叢書》的五分之一，可說是全書的精華。尤其是蔣中正先生與辭修先生之往來函電，可謂是「國寶級史料」首度公開。
