大陸台商認同是台商研究一個新興研究議題，藉著晚近此間部份學者的努力，也逐漸有了一些成果，儼然形成新興研究領域，本書藉著既有研究及個別探索所得建構相關類型學，驥望對此領域學術基礎之奠立貢獻若干力量。分別從較遠的位置說明台商社群形成的特殊背景及原因，以及闡釋族群概念的意涵及其與邊界概念之關係；其次，引介兩種說明台商跨域連結的面向，並陳述兩者對於擴展對台商認同認識的潛力；再次，描述由上兩面向建構的一個2X2的類型學，並就其中「跨國移民」及「連綴社群」兩類型之內涵加以比較與闡述。
