　　敘事電影與性別論述不僅已經成為當代顯學，而且也是電影研究裡相當具有前瞻性與批判性的領域。本書詳述敘事電影與性別論述的發展脈絡與方法論建構，充分地討論女性主義電影理論與男性電影研究兩個領域的論證重心、研究取徑，以及衍生出來的相關議題。並且選擇《人魚朵朵》、《藍色大門》、《向左走?向右走》、《花木蘭》與《西域威龍》五部影片進行個案研究。

　　本書採用文本分析的方法，透過影音美學、敘事形式、性別形象與主體建構、陰柔特質與陽剛特質的各個層面，解讀與詮釋每部影片文本的意義，藉以發掘出敘事電影裡的性別權力關係。同時論述場域也從台灣擴展至香港、再從香港擴展至美國，而論述層次更是由女性電影逐漸地提升至性別與國族，著重關注華語電影與華人銀幕再現的議題。
