禪就是「悟」，是一種無法用語言、文字來說明形容的內證體驗。禪直指人心，直截了當為人點出生命的真相。
禪宗公案是古代禪師們的開悟過程，內容精采絕倫，有棒喝交加、抑或搞笑不斷的教學手段；有特立獨行的行徑；有答非所問的言語機鋒；有說東答西的悟境勘驗；高手過招，電光石火之間，精妙盡出。
禪宗公案裡禪師們的悟境五花八門，有平淡無奇的，有相互矛盾的，有不合常理的，林林總總，若非當機的禪者，縱使時光倒轉，重回同一情境，也絕不可能得到同一悟境。又據《指月錄》百丈禪師的公案記載，說禪如有一字之誤，來生要墮野狐身五百世。我自認未達禪師們的悟境，所以不敢在此論禪，只好以「聞思修禪話集」為題，說說自己「聞思修」的感受。
