霹靂布袋戲以其創新、精緻的演出，在台灣廣受各個階層觀眾的歡迎與喜愛，除了定時租看錄影帶、VCD外，其中17歲到30歲的年輕戲迷族群，受到日本同人誌跟偶像後援會風潮的影響，還為了劇中戲偶明星自發性的成立布袋戲的偶像專屬後援會。有鑑於此，霹靂多媒體公司（當年仍為大霹靂公司）為了建立霹靂官方與戲迷間直接、良好的溝通橋樑，強調雙方的互動關係，特別於民國八十四年設立「霹靂會」，專責司職經營霹靂的戲迷族群，並藉由招募霹靂會員，協助後援會的成立來拉近霹靂公司與戲迷之間的距離。並於同年九月份發行霹靂會員專屬的平面刊物「霹靂月刊」，提供角色圖片、劇情深度剖析、人物組織評論以及後援會看版等等，內容豐富精采。
