《萬行》雜誌創辦於民國74年元月，自民國61年成一和尚接任華嚴蓮社住持，多年來即有創辦雜誌來幫助弘法的心願。民國73年9月，蓮社召開第二屆第三次董事會議，經過討論決定，開辦雜誌一事交由成一和尚負責。華嚴蓮社顧名思義以華嚴專宗為專弘、專修、專學為主旨，若能以「華嚴」為刊名，自屬恰當。唯「華嚴」二字已有他人登記，最後決定修學華嚴應以普賢萬行為準則，古德更以「菩薩修萬行因華以莊嚴一乘佛果」來詮釋華嚴宗趣，而定名「萬行」。
