虛雲和尚，道光二十年（一八四○年）七月二十九日生於泉州。歿於民國四十八年（一九五九年），凡一百二十歲，生平歷經清朝、民國建立、二次大戰及中共政權統治。
成長於動盪之中，畢生興佛學、訂新規、修佛寺古剎，把亂世中的佛教重新組織、興盛，並全力促成中國佛教會，誠為當代佛教高僧。
他的出生，是一團肉胎；他的出家，單純的只是因為他喜歡聽佛。三年來，他三跪九叩，一路從浙江走到五台山，靠的全是他想報父母養育之恩的堅定信念。六年來，一路從中原走到西藏再到印度，憑藉的只是他虔誠的信仰。凡走過的必留下痕跡，虛雲老和尚的一生，沒有所謂的神蹟，只有一僧一缽一步一腳印，和無比堅定的信心。
