1933年出生於日本富山縣。1951年以「每日小學生日報」的『天使の玉ちゃん』一作出道。
後來與安孫子素雄以「藤子不二雄」的名義發表作品，於1987年二人解除合作關係後，以「藤子・Ｆ・不二雄」的名義開創兒童漫畫的新時代。
代表作有『哆啦A夢』、『小鬼Ｑ太郎（共同著作）』、『小超人帕門』、『奇天烈大百科』、『超能力魔美』等。
