本書是一部主題創作散文作品集。“走淮河”大型文學采風活動系安徽省委宣傳部、省文聯確定的2017年“深紮”主題的重點專案和工程。2017年6月起，安徽省作協組織數十名優秀中青年作家許冬林、儲勁松、程保平、羅光成、張建春等人在兩個月時間裏，從淮河源頭——河南省桐柏縣走起，順著淮河順流而下，依次走過淮河河南段、安徽段、江蘇段，至泗洪縣八卦洲淮河入洪澤湖口結束，行程1000餘公里。其間，作家們深入考察了沿淮16個重點市縣的人文歷史與社會發展狀況，走訪了文史專家、水利工作者及淮河漁民等，掌握積累了眾多鮮活的第一手資料，並以大散文的予以呈現，從歷史文化、自然生態、社會經濟發展等多個角度對淮河進行深度的文學表達，集結成書。
潘小平，《安徽文學》主編，安徽作家協會副主席，安徽大學兼職教授。有《季風來臨》《北方驛站》《城市囈語》《文化徽州》《前朝舊事》等散文隨筆及長篇歷史小說《翁同龢》出版。廣泛參與電視策劃與創作，擔任多部大型文化專題片和紀錄片撰稿。 已發表論文、散文、紀實文學、影視文學、小說約800萬字。
