禪也不是理性的文字和概念所能傳遞的。禪家常說「言語道斷」，意思是說，光是用語言文字來討論禪是行不通的。但是，中國禪宗的發展，卻留下一疊疊浩瀚的公案，而這些公案又是不可思議的難懂，特別是公案中師生的對話，絕大部分不能用邏輯來了解。
「參禪悟道」才是它的學習方法。頓悟，就是指經過長久的修行，突然醍醐灌頂的那一刻。學禪的路程就好像登高樓觀風景：在還沒上樓之前，先想知道樓上有什麼東西，什麼景致，是不是值得一看，那是無法享受到登高望遠的樂趣的。若是真正想要看到美麗的景致，了解禪的真意，不用問那麼多的問題，只需要努力的攀登，認真的體悟。

青山幾度變黃山，世事紛飛總不幹；
