漢語的“修辭格”和英語的figures of speech，都是指一些非常規的、形象化的表達方式，即所謂的修辭手段。修辭格的問題涉及語言的表達，是修辭學中的一個重要組成部分。本書試圖借助語言學研究的最新成果，尤其社會語言學、文化語言學、心理語言學、認知語言學、語用學和語義學等方面的研究成果，從語言與文化兩個視角切入，採用交叉論述方式，對英語和漢語的修辭格進行一次比較深入細緻的剖析和對比研究。本書分為四個部分：一、基本對應的英、漢修辭格；二、局部對應的英、漢修辭格；三、英語中特有的修辭格；四、漢語中特有的修辭格。
李國南，教授，長期從事英語修辭學、文體學及英漢對比修辭學的教學與研究工作。著有《英漢修辭格對比研究》《辭格與辭彙》等，參編《大學修辭學》等教材，負責中國社科院主持編纂的《語言學名詞》"修辭學"部分的術語英譯，在國內外發表學術論文80餘篇。
