本書首先對民族及其相關概念進行系統的梳理，引介社會學、心理學、哲學、政治學、文學等不同領域的思想論述，追溯國內外圍繞民族主題展開的文學研究歷史，反思民族建構的意義，展望民族想像的未來；而後通過經典案例評析和原創案例示範，闡釋基於民族視角的文學研究範式；最後展示了民族話題的多重維度，為感興趣的研究者提供了可能展開的研究選題。
孫紅衛，文學博士，南京大學外國語學院英語系教師，主要研究領域為愛爾蘭文學、現當代西方思想等。曾在軍隊院校工作十餘年，期間受國防部派遣參加援非任務，獲利比裏亞國防部、公共工程部表彰。在《外國文學》《國外文學》《外國文學評論》《外國語》《讀書》《中華讀書報》《新知》等刊物發表論文10餘篇，在《譯林》《海外文摘》《讀者》等刊物發表譯作40餘篇，出版《世博詩草》《外軍院校建設發展戰略概覽》《世界大國海洋戰略概覽》等譯著多部，參與編寫《當代外國文學紀事（英國卷）》。主持國家社科基金專案1項，參加國家社科基金重大專案1項。
