《离岸芳华——海外华文短篇小说选》精选了北美（美国、加拿大）和欧洲（比利时）十位华文作家的十三篇作品，且其中九位是中国改革开放以后走出国门的“新移民”作家，具有很强代表性和时代特征。他们的作品多与中国的历史、社会和现实发生某种直接或间接的关联，主要在中国发表、出版，多位作家在中国获奖；同时，他们的海外视野又使其作品带有异质文化的特点，无论在形式还是内核上都有新的尝试和突破。
江岚，出生于广西桂林，加拿大籍华文女作家，现执教于美国高校。出版有短篇小说集《故事中的女人》，学术专著《唐诗西传史论：以唐诗在英美的传播为中心》，长篇小说《合欢牡丹》，编著“新世纪海外华文女作家”丛书等。现为北美中文作家协会副会长兼外联部主任、海外华文女作家协会终身会员。张翎，女，浙江温州人。90年代中后期开始在海外写作并发表，代表作有《劳燕》《余震》《金山》等。曾获得包括华语文学传媒大奖年度小说家奖、华侨华人文学奖评委会大奖、台湾《中国时报》“开卷好书奖”、香港“红楼梦奖•世界华文长篇小说奖”专家推荐奖等在内的多个华语文学重大奖项。根据其小说《余震》改编的电影《唐山大地震》，获得亚太电影节最佳影片、中国大众电影百花奖最佳影片等多个奖项。其作品被译成多国语言。
