袁了凡，明代思想家，初名表，后改名黄，初号学海，后改了凡。著作涉及农业、历法、军事、音乐、几何、佛学等诸多领域，其中《了凡四训》一书影响深远。
蒋维乔，字竹庄，别号因是子，近代著名教育家、哲学家、佛学家，与近代史学大师吕思勉并称为“常州二先生”，现代教育首倡者之一，商务印书馆奠基人之一，主要著有《中国佛教史》《中国近三百年哲学史》《因是子静坐养法》等。
