江蘇鎮江人，在臺灣曾任中學教師、大學教授，在大陸應聘為北京中國文化書院導師、海峽兩岸學術文化交流促進會學術委員會名譽顧問。著作有《中國思想史》（上、下）、《董仲舒》、《儒家與現代中國》、《中國的智慧》、《思想的貧困》、《孔子》等。
