為了更好地傳承詩詞文化，本書前四講特推介普通話讀書音。普通話讀書音平上去入四聲俱全，用來誦讀詩詞，平仄清楚，韻腳分明，可以彌補普通話缺失入聲的不足。本書從第五講起，講解詩詞格律，凡用以舉例的詩詞作品均注上普通話讀書音，並附《入聲練讀表》示範音頻，以便習讀。書後附有《詩韻常用字現代上海話、普通話讀書音》，可供讀者查閱使用。
張仁賢，號野藤齋主人，1938年1月生。1957—1961年就讀於南京師範學院（今南京師範大學）中文系，從章黃學派徐複教授習文字、訓詁、音韻之學，從唐圭璋教授習詞學。為解決古詩文誦讀方面的難題，自1998年退休之日起，即潛心研究讀書音，並編寫“野藤齋古詩文讀本”。其中《詩經楚辭百首詳析》《古文筆法詳析》等已出版，未出版的尚有二十餘種。
