道教成立之後，本於道家「道法自然」的思想，創天文（或稱天書），畫符念咒。道符畫的是天文或寫天書，並加入了宗教的神秘感，根據天文畫符，作龍章符篆，統稱符籙。書法家根據道符的點畫線條造形，可看出道符乃是有別於漢字或改動漢字結構的另一種書法，既然道符是另一種書法，那麼書法界就應該留意這種書法藝術的存在，並應探索其究竟，可有無助益書法的創新發展，本書作者認為道符的書法乃是道家自然無極的書道。它完全不受文字結構的拘束，在行筆運毫時，可以自然無極地發揮，使筆畫墨影，達到最奇特表現的境界。
　本書不但深入探討天文的書法藝術，而且仿照天文的書法藝術創作新穎的點畫線條造形作品，期以開創書法藝術的另一片天地。
