《能顯中邊慧日論》，簡稱《慧日論》。

能顯者，中道義，所顯者，二邊義，為立中道義破二邊，故後又稱慧日。

慧日者，以佛法正義總抉擇諸家所言，破無明顯真實慧，此論多以問答抉擇作成。

本論總有四卷，共七萬三千餘字。

多所引用《涅槃》、《法華》、《深密》、《瑜伽》、《佛性論》、《勝鬘》、《攝論》、《成唯識論》等經論。

慧沼法師（西元651-714年），又名惠沼，彭城人（今中國江蘇省徐州）為中國唐朝法相唯識宗門人，初在玄奘三藏門下受學法相唯識，爾後玄奘三藏往生後又為了能更深入法相唯識諸義而親從窺基(672)大師受學，同年，從學也是玄奘三藏的門人普光（大乘光）受學俱舍義。

被稱為山東一遍照、淄州沼、沼闍梨。
